Millions of Christians all over the world are being told by their pastors that it is an absolute requirement from God that they should tithe, that is, pay 10% of their monetary income to the church in order to receive blessings and protection from God.

But all these gullible Christians are being lied to and scammed out of their money. The Bible warns us about those who are teaching false doctrines like this when it says,

“In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.” 2 Peter‬ ‭2:3‬ ‭NLT

‬‬The Bible never ever commanded New Testament believers to tithe 10% of their monetary income! As a matter of fact, there is no command or example in Scripture that has anything to do with tithing money! None!

It is very hard for those who are tithers to admit they are wrong and have been fooled. They are completely indoctrinated by this “you must tithe” teaching. They are bound by guilt and fear of being cursed or punished if they don’t tithe! Tithing was an Old Testament custom under the Law of Moses meant for the Jewish farmers and ranchers who had to bring the 10th portion of their crops and livestock ONCE A YEAR to the Levite priests. Now, let’s see how these church pastors are deceiving you to get you to pay tithes.

They tell you that Abraham tithed before the Law of Moses, But Abraham, tithed only ONCE in his entire life. That one time, he did not tithe from his wealth or normal income, but of the spoils of war (see Genesis 14:20). It was NOT money!

So, to try to insist that Abraham’s one-time tithe of the spoils of war means that every Christian must give 10% of their regular income every month throughout their entire life is absolutely stupid and ridiculous.

These church pastors falsely tell you that you will be robbing God if you do not tithe. They use the Old Testament Bible book of Malachi, the third chapter, where God is speaking to the Israelite farmers who were commanded under the law of Moses to give 10% of their agricultural products and livestock ONCE A YEAR to the Temple. Some of these Jewish farmers were not obeying this law, so God had to admonish them.

Here is what it says in Malachi 3:8-12:

“Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. “And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts; “And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful land,” Says the Lord of hosts.” ‭‭Malachi‬ ‭3:8-12‬ ‭NKJV

‬‬If Malachi 3 applies to the New Testament believers, then the entire Old Testament also applies to us, and so would the law system of blessing or cursing based on behavior rather than Christ’s work on the cross who abolished the system of law with its commandments and regulations (see Ephesians‬ ‭2:15‬).

These pastors also deceive people by using Matthew 23:23 to say that Jesus wants you to tithe.

But here Jesus was rebuking the Pharisees, who were Jews, living under the Old Testament laws of Moses, saying to them,

“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your MINT AND ANISE AND CUMMIN, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things. Blind guides! You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel!” Matthew 23:23 NLT

As you can see, tithing was NEVER about giving money. Abraham, the Jewish farmers, and the Pharisees had money, and some lots of it, and yet they did not tithe one cent of it! Tithing was never meant for the Church, the Body of Christ!

Under the New Covenant, the Bible gives clear instructions to the New Testament born-again believer on giving, when it says,

“Give in proportion to what you have. Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.” 2. Corinthians‬ ‭8:11-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.” 2. Corinthians‬ ‭9:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

and,

“On every Lord’s Day, each of you should put aside some amount of money in relation to what you have earned and save it for this offering.” 1. Corinthians 16:2 NLT

Tithing is nothing but a universal scam to force you to give money to the church under false pretenses!
