No, Jesus never told anybody that they should be rich. On the contrary, Jesus advocates the exact opposite, as he puts these questions before us,

“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” Matthew‬ ‭16:26‬ ‭NLT

‬‬That’s why the Bible says,

“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” 1. John‬ ‭2:15-17‬ ‭NLT

‬‬Jesus also explained what happens to a certain category of people who hear God’s message,

“But they start worrying about the needs of this life. They are fooled by the desire to get rich and to have all kinds of other things. So the message gets choked out, and they never produce anything.”‭‭ Mark‬ ‭4:19‬ ‭CEV

‬‬“These people think religion is supposed to make you rich. And religion does make your life rich, by making you content with what you have. We didn’t bring anything into this world, and we won’t take anything with us when we leave. So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes.”‭‭1. Timothy‬ ‭6:5-8‬ ‭CEV‬

See,

“People who want to be rich fall into all sorts of temptations and traps. They are caught by foolish and harmful desires that drag them down and destroy them. The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain.” 1. Timothy‬ ‭6:9-10‬ ‭CEV

‬‬In other words,

“Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have.” Hebrews‬ ‭13:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The apostle Paul explained this really well when said,

“I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:11-13‬ ‭NLT

‬‬Why isn’t this stuff being taught in the Church? All we see is the Church being busy brainwashing their followers with the false doctrine of the “Tithing” obligation and the sowing of money seeds in exchange for being blessed and becoming rich. How foolish!
