“Some who are poor pretend to be rich.”Proverbs 13:7 NLT
The Bible further says that,
“People who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” 1. Timothy 6:9-10 NLT
These are the people who fall for all types of fraud. The most common tricks are the get rich quick “advance-fee” scam. This scam typically involves promising the victim a significant share of a large sum of money in return for a small up-front payment, which the fraudster claims will be used to obtain the large sum. If a victim makes the payment, the fraudster either invents a series of further fees for the victim, or simply disappears.
Other scams involve being misled to buy foreign currencies at today’s value with the promise that millions of dollars in profits are guaranteed once the exchange rate has improved.
In their delusion, these people cling to the hope and belief, against all odds and advice, that what they involved themselves in is from God, and that it will pay off richly in the end, realizing their dream of becoming filthy rich. In the meantime they struggle financially, and in many cases resort to begging others for help.
