Heard today on Facebook a famous megachurch pastor speaking to his members saying that donations has tapered off lately, and that they should check whether their tithe and offering giving are current. Really? That is why the Church is nothing but a joke! It teaches against the Biblical truth of giving set for the New Testament believers. And what are they?
“Give in proportion to what you have. Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.” 2. Corinthians 8:11-12 NLT
“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.” 2. Corinthians 9:7 NLT
There is no Law of tithing or giving 10% involved here, neither the obligation of giving a specific amount in offerings. Just look at this Bible verse, “On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned.” 1. Corinthians 16:2 NLT
Pastors have no business knowing how much you make and to tell how much you should give. Their responsibility is to trust in God for whatever comes in the offering bucket.
Yes, as the Bible says about pastors;
“Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.” 1. Peter 5:2-3 NLT
