Doctor Jesus

“And then He told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick and heal them.” Mark 16:15-18 NLT

“Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.” Matthew 10:1 NLT

“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!” Matthew 10:8 NLT

“So the disciples went out, telling all they met to turn from their sins. And they cast out many demons and healed many sick people, anointing them with olive oil.” Mark 6:12-13 NLT

Jesus sends out His disciples- and that is all of us who are disciples or followers of Jesus – and commission them among others to cast out demons in His name and heal the sick.

In other words it is God’s desire for us to live a life free from demons and sickness as it is stated in the 3. John 2 NLT;

“Dear friend, I am praying that all is well with you and that your body is as healthy as I know your soul is.”

“He personally carried away our sins in His own body on the cross so we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. You have been healed by His wounds!” 1. Peter 2:24-25 NLT

The disciples testified and taught about Jesus as followed:

“And no doubt you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the Devil, for God was with him.” Acts 10:38 NLT

Here is an example of Jesus going around doing good to people:

“When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was in bed with a high fever. But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him.

“That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. All the spirits fled when he commanded them to leave; and he healed all the sick.  This fulfilled the word of the Lord through Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.”
Matthew 8:14-17 NLT

Here is more of Doctor Jesus in action healing, raising up the dead, and casting out demons:

“Then Jesus went back across to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him on the shore. A leader of the local synagogue, whose name was Jairus, came and fell down before him, pleading with him to heal his little daughter. “She is about to die,” he said in desperation. “Please come and place your hands on her; heal her so she can live.”

Jesus went with him, and the crowd thronged behind. And there was a woman in the crowd who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors through the years and had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she was worse. She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched the fringe of his robe. For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his clothing, I will be healed.” Immediately the bleeding stop-ped, and she could feel that she had been healed!

Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

His disciples said to him, “All this crowd is pressing around you. How can you ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and told him what she had done. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. You have been healed.”

While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from Jairus’s home with the message, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”

But Jesus ignored their comments and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just trust me.”  Then Jesus stopped the crowd and wouldn’t let anyone go with him except Peter and James and John. When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw the commotion and the weeping and wailing.  He went inside and spoke to the people. “Why all this weeping and commotion?” he asked. “The child isn’t dead; she is only asleep.”

The crowd laughed at him, but he told them all to go outside. Then he took the girl’s father and mother and his three disciples into the room where the girl was lying. Holding her hand, he said to her, “Get up, little girl!”  And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around! Her parents were absolutely overwhelmed. Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone what had happened, and he told them to give her something to eat.”
Mark 5:21-43 NLT

“After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”

They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?”

“Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.”

Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.” And suddenly they could see! Jesus sternly warned them, “Don’t tell anyone about this.” But instead, they spread his fame all over the region.

When they left, some people brought to him a man who couldn’t speak because he was possessed by a demon. So Jesus cast out the demon, and instantly the man could talk.”
Matthew 9:27-33 NLT

It is apparent throughout these healing and deliverance stories that we need to believe or have the faith that God can and wants to heal us. Normally, a sick person would not go to a doctor to seek medical attention if he didn’t believe he could be helped!

God is moved by our faith in Him; unbelief hinders the move of healing in our lives.

This is, for instance, what is being said about the people in Jesus’ hometown Nazareth:

“And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any mighty miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their unbelief.” Mark 6:5-6 NLT

We need to trust and believe that God is more than able and capable to help us, since it is His will and desire for us to live in perfect health.

“Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God.  I assure you that you can say to this mountain, ‘May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,’ and your command will be obeyed. All that’s required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart. Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you will have it. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” Mark 11:22-25 NLT

“Dear friends, if our conscience is clear, we can come to God with bold confidence. And we will receive whatever we request because we obey him and do the things that please him. And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us.” 1. John 3:21-23 NLT

“And we can be confident that he will listen to us whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will. And if we know he is listening when we make our requests, we can be sure that he will give us what we ask for.” 1. John 5:14-15 NLT

He can do or use anything to bring us healing. He can do it for example as we have seen Jesus doing through an instant miracle touch, or He can use a doctor or physician to accomplish His miraculous will.

In other words we need to put our faith and trust in Him only; Jesus Christ!

When healing does not take place:

Many people do not receive healing because they are living in disobedience to God and His Word. For instance, as I already pointed out in the above, they doubt God, walk in unbelief, or live in unforgiveness.

“But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. People like that should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. They can’t make up their minds. They waver back and forth in everything they do.” James 1:6-8 NLT

“Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you will have it. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.” Mark 11:24-25 NLT

Therefore, we have to repent and ask God to forgive us for disobeying His Word. And we must forgive those who have hurt us.

“Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.  And their prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make them well. And anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.”
James 5:14-17 NLT

Sometimes, God does not heal somebody immediately because He is allowing sickness coming from Satan for that particularly season for a purpose or plan. For instance, God allows infirmity for the testing of our faith through suffering or to stay humble and meek. Like God did with Job and the apostle Paul.

Then the LORD asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth — a man of complete integrity. He fears God and will have nothing to do with evil. And he has maintained his integrity, even though you persuaded me to harm him without cause.”

Satan replied to the LORD, “Skin for skin — he blesses you only because you bless him. A man will give up everything he has to save his life. But take away his health, and he will surely curse you to your face!”

“All right, do with him as you please,” the LORD said to Satan. “But spare his life.” So Satan left the LORD’s presence, and he struck Job with a terrible case of boils from head to foot.
Job 2:3-7 NLT

“We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. Job is an example of a man who endured patiently. From his experience we see how the Lord’s plan finally ended in good, for he is full of tenderness and mercy.” James 5:11 NLT

And this is what the apostle Paul said:

“But to keep me from getting puffed up, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from getting proud.

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness.”
2. Corinthians 12:7-9 NLT

In conclusion, let me end with the Words of Doctor Jesus The Healer:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

for he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,

that the blind will see,

that the downtrodden will be freed from their oppressors,

and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”

Luke 4:18-19 NLT
