The Devil’s Greatest Nightmare

“Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” 2. Timothy 3:12 NLT

In other words, if you want to live a fruitful life for Jesus Christ, the devil, a.k.a. Satan, will certainly persecute you and attack you!

It is the devil’s greatest nightmare when you are walking in the fruit of the Holy Spirit, meaning that you are loving, you have God’s joy and peace, you are patient and kind, you do good, you are faithful and gentle, and you have self-control (see Galatians 5:22-23).

The devil, who has great knowledge of the Word of God, the Bible, knows that when your actions are produced from the fruit of the Holy Spirit, you are going to be very attractive and effective as a Christian for non-believers and fellow struggling believers. They will taste your godly fruit and see that God is good (see Psalm 34:8). They will ultimately be stirred up to want to be saved and follow your example of producing godly fruit and being identified as attractive and effective Christians, as Jesus Christ puts it:

“Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” Matthew 7:20 NLT

The devil also knows that if you remain in Jesus Christ and His Word, you will produce much fruit, and therefore you are God’s true disciple. You are the real deal! You will be able to ask God whatever you want, and it will be granted!

Satan knows that your producing of godly fruit is connected to your prayer requests being answered, which ultimately gives God great glory!

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:4-5 NLT

“But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.” John 15:7-8 NLT

That’s why the devil will do anything to stop you from bearing godly fruit. One of the many tactics he uses is making you believe, that the gifts and calling of God is the same as having fruit in your life. Satan, who is the father of lies, (see John 8:44) tells you that being a prophet, apostle, pastor, evangelist, or teacher is a fruit, instead of a gift given by God without repentance. The Bible says clearly, that “the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” (Romans 11:29 KJV)

Satan knows that having a gift does not automatically give you access to Heaven. As the above scripture says, the gifts and calling of God are freely given and not something you earn. But, godly fruit need to be worked out through your character – as part of your salvation in Jesus Christ – with fear and trembling (see Philippians 2:12). For instance, you can be extremely gifted and anointed as an evangelist, and yet at the same time be very unloving, unkind, self-centered, arrogant, and nasty.

Whether you are gifted or not, it gives the devil great pleasure if you follow the desires of your sinful nature. Satan knows that you will not enter the Kingdom of God!

“When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21 NLT

It gives Satan great pleasure if you are living in unforgiveness (see Mark 11:25) and lying, saying that you love God, and yet you hate your brother or sister. The devil knows that liars will ultimately end up going to hell, even if they are gifted.

“If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar;” 1. John 4:20 NLT

“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur.” Revelations 21:8 NLT

On judgment day, many gifted and anointed Christians will come before Jesus Christ, eagerly wanting to enter Heaven, saying: “We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.” Jesus will answer them: “It’s not calling yourself a Christian or having the gift of a prophet or healer that will bring you into the Kingdom of Heaven, but doing My will of producing much fruit.”

“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’” Matthew 7:21-23 NLT

“So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire.Matthew 7:19 NLT

“When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples.” John 15:8 NLT

Even if you call yourself a Christian, the devil will not bother with you if you are not producing godly fruit in your life! You are absolutely no threat to him. Just look how easily and quickly Satan deceived three of the four types of Christians, mentioned by Jesus in the Parable Of The Farmer Scattering Seed, making sure that they will never bear any godly fruit and become a threat to his evil kingdom.

Satan operates by stealing, killing, and destroying any attempt by a Christian to bear godly fruit. (See John 10:10)

With the first type of Christian, Satan immediately steals God’s message so it won’t produce any fruit.

With the second type of Christian, Satan takes advantage of this person’s lack of deep root. He will persecute them for believing God’s Word and make them fall away, choking and killing any production of godly fruit in their lives.

The third type of Christian, Satan cleverly deceives, by telling them that having a nice house, car, or material goods is a fruit from God that they have to chase after. The devil causes them to worry about life and gives them an unquenchable lust for wealth and prosperity, perverting and destroying the message of God that could have made them produce fruit.

Note: Having a nice house, car, and possessions is not a fruit, but blessings, if they come from God!

“The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come at once and take it away.

The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word.

The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced.”
Mark 4:15-19 NLT

The fourth type of Christian is the devil’s greatest nightmare, because they hear and accept God’s Word, and produce a harvest of godly fruit!

“And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” Mark 4:20 NLT

These true disciples of Jesus Christ will overflow in love, they have lots of joy and peace, and they are very patient. They are basking in kindness, they do a lot of good for others, and are faithful. They are always gentle, and are able to have self-control.

That is the reason Jesus Christ says the following to us believers:

“You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.” John 15:16 NLT

Satan knows this all too well, and will therefore try to do whatever it takes to prevent you, as a Christian, to come to the place of producing lasting fruit and your prayers being answered by God, the Father, because then you will become “The Devil’s Greatest Nightmare!
